- Day 1: Scenic Transfer from Kigali to Bwindi
Your safari begins with a morning pickup by your professional driver-guide from your hotel in Kigali or directly from Kigali International Airport. Traveling in a private, customized 4×4 safari vehicle, you will embark on a scenic drive through Rwanda’s iconic terraced hillsides toward the Ugandan border.
Your guide will handle all customs and immigration formalities at the border post to ensure a smooth transition. Once in Uganda, you will ascend into the spectacular Kigezi Highlands, arriving at your Bwindi lodge in time for a warm lunch. Spend the afternoon relaxing on the lodge deck, soaking in the sights and sounds of the primordial forest, followed by a freshly prepared multi-course dinner.
- Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
Following an early breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the Uganda Wildlife Authority park headquarters. You will join a small tracking group, meet your expert rangers, and receive an essential briefing on forest etiquette before plunging into the dense jungle. The trek involves navigating thick vegetation and forested ridges, culminating in a magical, unforgettable hour standing just meters away from a habituated family of mountain gorillas.
After hiking back to the trailhead to receive your official trekking certificate, you will reunite with your driver-guide. Instead of heading back to Kigali, you will embark on a highly scenic drive to Lake Bunyonyi, checking into your lakeside resort in time to witness a spectacular sunset over the water and enjoy a relaxing dinner.
- Day 3: Lake Bunyonyi Exploration and Return to Kigali
The final day starts with a peaceful breakfast overlooking the misty lake. You will board a traditional motorized canoe or boat for a guided exploration of Lake Bunyonyi’s famous islands, learning about the rich local history and vibrant birdlife that gives the lake its name. After soaking in the tranquil island views, you will return to the resort to check out and begin your journey back to Rwanda.
