- Day 1: Arrival In Entebbe – Kampala
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your West Tours Uganda guide. After a short briefing about your upcoming adventure, you will be transferred to your hotel near the shores of Lake Victoria. Depending on your arrival time, the remainder of the day is free to relax and recover from your international journey.
West Tours Tip: If you arrive early, consider a sunset walk along the shores of Lake Victoria or visit the nearby Entebbe Botanical Gardens.
- Day 2: Kampala – Karamoja Region (Via Sipi Falls)
After breakfast, depart Kampala and begin your journey to Uganda’s wild frontier. The drive to Karamoja takes eight to ten hours by road, winding through Mbale and Sipi Falls – climbing through lush green highlands before descending into the drier savannas of the northeast. Along the way, the scenery transforms dramatically – from rolling farmlands to acacia-dotted plains where herds of cattle graze under the sun.
Arrive in Moroto, the regional capital and gateway to Karamoja, in the evening. Settle into your lodge with the commanding presence of Mount Moroto towering above.
West Tours Tip: The journey to Karamoja is an adventure in itself – enjoy the changing landscapes and keep your camera ready for roadside markets and coffee plantations.
- Day 3: Karamoja Cultural Experience – Mount Moroto
Today, immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of the Karamojong people – proud pastoralists who have maintained their traditional lifestyle for centuries.
Morning Activity – Cultural Tour:
Visit a Manyatta (traditional Karamojong village), where you will learn about how huts are built using mud and thatch, how livestock is managed, and how social structures revolve around the herding lifestyle. The men often wear a shuka draped around their shoulders, while women adorn themselves with layers of vibrant beads around their necks and arms. You may also have the opportunity to visit the Boma Museum to delve into the rich heritage that has shaped Karamoja.Optional Afternoon Activity – Mount Moroto Hike:
For the adventurous, a guided hike up Mount Moroto (3,083 meters) offers breathtaking views of the surrounding plains and a chance to spot wildlife in the Mount Moroto Forest Reserve.West Tours Tip: The Karamojong are a proud and hospitable people – show respect for their traditions and ask permission before taking photographs.
- Day 4: Karamoja – Kidepo Valley National Park
After breakfast, depart Karamoja and journey to Kidepo Valley National Park – one of Africa’s last true wildernesses. Located at the northern edge of Karamoja, Kidepo is Uganda’s third-largest national park, stretching over 1,442 km² with an elevation of over 2,000 meters. CNN has ranked Kidepo as Africa’s third-best wildlife park.
Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon. If time allows, enjoy an evening game drive in the Narus Valley, where you can spot lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and large herds of antelope species. Kidepo is also one of the few places in Uganda where you can find cheetahs.

- Day 5: Kidepo Valley National Park – Full Day
Morning Game Drive: Set off at dawn for a game drive across the Narus Valley, where you’ll search for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, lions, and possibly the elusive cheetah. Keen birders can look out for ostriches and other rare species.
Afternoon Activities:
- Guided Nature Walk: Explore the park’s flora and smaller wildlife species on a guided walking safari, where you’ll be taught to read animal tracks and learn about medicinal plants

- Day 6: Kidepo – Karamoja – Sipi Falls
After a final morning game drive in Kidepo, depart the park and journey back through Karamoja toward Sipi Falls. The drive offers more opportunities to witness the region’s dramatic landscapes – from golden savannas to distant mountain ranges.
Arrive at your lodge near Sipi Falls in the evening, surrounded by the lush greenery of the Mount Elgon region.

- Day 7: Sipi Falls – Jinja (Source Of The Nile)
Morning Activity – Sipi Falls Hike:
After breakfast, enjoy a guided hike to Sipi Falls – a series of three stunning waterfalls cascading down the slopes of Mount Elgon. The hike offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and the Karamoja plains in the distance.Afternoon Transfer to Jinja:
Depart Sipi Falls and drive to Jinja, the adventure capital of East Africa, located on the shores of Lake Victoria.Arrive at your hotel in Jinja and settle in for the night.

- Day 8: Source Of The Nile – Jinja
Today, experience one of Uganda’s most iconic landmarks – the Source of the Nile.
Morning Activity – Source of the Nile Boat Cruise:
Embark on a boat cruise on Lake Victoria to the exact spot where the River Nile separates from Lake Victoria on its 6,650 km journey to the Mediterranean Sea. The cruise offers scenic views, opportunities to spot local wildlife, and a chance to visit this historical landmark.Afternoon Exploration:
- Visit the Jinja Nile Bridge for panoramic views of the river
- Explore the Jinja Craft Market for local souvenirs and crafts
- Optional: Ziplining over the Nile River

- Day 9: Jinja – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Murchison Falls
After breakfast, depart Jinja and drive north toward Murchison Falls National Park. En route, stop at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – the only place in Uganda where you can track rhinos on foot.
Activity – Rhino Tracking at Ziwa:
Embark on a guided rhino tracking walk that typically lasts between 1.5 to 2.5 hours. The sanctuary is home to 48 southern white rhinos, and you’ll have the opportunity to observe them up close, hear their calls, and learn about conservation efforts. Optional activities include birding walks and a shoebill boat trip in the sanctuary wetlands.Afternoon Transfer to Murchison Falls:
Continue your journey to Murchison Falls National Park – Uganda’s largest national park. - Day 10: Murchison Falls National Park – Game Drive & Boat Cruise
Morning Game Drive: Set off at dawn for a game drive across the savannah plains of Murchison Falls National Park. Look out for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, lions, leopards, and a variety of antelope species.
Afternoon Boat Cruise: After lunch, embark on a 3-hour boat cruise on the Victoria Nile to the base of the legendary Murchison Falls. The cruise offers close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, and elephants and buffaloes coming to drink. The journey culminates at the base of the falls, where the Nile explodes through a narrow gorge – a truly spectacular sight.

- Day 11: Murchison Falls – Top Of The Falls – Kibale
Morning Activity – Top of the Falls Hike:
After breakfast, hike to the top of Murchison Falls – an exhilarating experience that offers a different perspective of the Nile’s power. Stand at the edge of the gorge and watch the river thunder through the narrow gap below.Afternoon Transfer to Kibale:
Depart Murchison Falls and journey south toward Kibale National Park. The drive takes you through Uganda’s beautiful countryside, past tea plantations and traditional villages.Arrive at your forest lodge near Kibale in the evening.

- Day 12: Chimpanzee Trekking – Kibale National Park
Today is your first primate encounter. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking rules and safety. You’ll then enter the rainforest with expert ranger guides to track habituated chimpanzee families.
Kibale National Park is home to the highest density of chimpanzees in East Africa – over 1,500 individuals. Once a chimp family is located, you’ll spend one unforgettable hour observing their natural behavior – grooming, feeding, calling loudly through the forest, and moving swiftly through the canopy. Alongside chimps, keep your eyes open for Colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, bush babies, and over 350 species of birds.

- Day 13: Kibale – Queen Elizabeth National Park (Ishasha Sector)
After breakfast, depart Kibale and journey south toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive takes you past the mystical Rwenzori Mountains – often veiled in clouds.
Today, you’ll head to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions. Arrive in the afternoon and enjoy a game drive across the Ishasha plains, scanning the fig trees for lions lounging on branches – a rare and spectacular sight found in only a few places in Africa.
West Tours Tip: The tree-climbing lions of Ishasha are one of Uganda’s most iconic wildlife experiences. Patience is key – they often rest in the trees during the heat of the day.
- Day 14: Game Drive & Boat Cruise – Queen Elizabeth National Park
Morning Game Drive: Set off at dawn for a thrilling game drive across the Kasenyi Plains. This is one of Uganda’s premier wildlife destinations – home to an incredible variety of animals including lions, elephants, buffaloes, and elusive leopards often seen lounging in the shade. Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to almost 100 different mammal species.
Afternoon Boat Cruise: After lunch, prepare for a magical boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This natural channel connects Lake George and Lake Edward and is home to one of the world’s largest hippo populations. Glide past massive pods of hippos jostling and yawning, crocodiles basking on the banks, and large herds of elephants and buffaloes coming to drink.

- Day 15: Queen Elizabeth – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Today, leave the open savannah landscapes behind and journey toward Uganda’s ancient montane forests – a dramatic change in scenery and atmosphere. As you travel deeper into the highlands, the environment becomes cooler, greener, and more densely forested.
Arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the afternoon. Bwindi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring dense, ancient rainforest and is home to roughly half the world’s mountain gorilla population.
Optional Afternoon Activity:
- Guided walk through the Batwa community – the indigenous forest people. This experience includes visits to basket weavers, a local school, and storytelling about Batwa history and present-day life

- Day 16: Gorilla Trekking – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Today is the day you’ve been waiting for. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules. You’ll be assigned to one of the habituated gorilla families and grouped with up to seven other trekkers.
Then, set off with your expert guide and trackers into the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The trek can take anywhere from two to six hours, depending on where the gorilla family has moved. You’ll hike through thick rainforest, across steep slopes, and through dense vegetation – physically demanding, but absolutely worth every step.
Once the gorilla family is located, you’ll have one unforgettable hour observing them up close – playing, moving through the trees, and interacting with each other in their natural environment. Watch a silverback protect his family, observe a mother gently groom her infant, and lock eyes with one of our closest living relatives.

- Day 17: Bwindi – Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast, depart Bwindi and drive to Lake Bunyonyi – one of Uganda’s most breathtaking and peaceful locations. The drive takes approximately 2–3 hours through the beautiful highlands.
Arrive at your lodge on the shores of Lake Bunyonyi in time for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a traditional dugout canoe ride – the signature experience at Lake Bunyonyi. Paddle yourself or hire a local to guide you across the calm waters, visiting some of the 29 islands that dot the lake. Your captain will share the haunting history of Akampene (Punishment Island) , where pregnant girls were once abandoned.

- Day 18: Lake Bunyonyi – Exploration & Relaxation
Today is a day of relaxation and exploration at your own pace.

- Nature Walks and Hiking: Hike around the surrounding hills for panoramic views of the islands and distant Virunga Volcanoes

- Mountain Biking: Rent a bike and explore the highland trails
- Bird Watching: Spot the diverse birdlife that thrives around the lake
- Swimming: Enjoy the safe, bilharzia-free waters

- Day 19: Lake Bunyonyi – Lake Mburo National Park
After a leisurely breakfast, depart Lake Bunyonyi and journey east toward Lake Mburo National Park. The drive takes you through the beautiful highlands, past terraced hillsides, and through the equator.
Arrive at your lodge in Lake Mburo National Park in the afternoon. Enjoy an evening game drive, looking out for zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, and if you’re lucky, the elusive leopard. Lake Mburo is one of the best places in Uganda for zebra sightings – the park has a healthy population of these striking animals.

- Day 20: Lake Mburo National Park – Guided Walking Safari
Morning Activity – Walking Safari:
Set out on a guided walking safari with an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger-guide. This is a truly immersive experience – you’ll walk among zebras, impalas, and other wildlife, and take the trail to the top of the hills for panoramic views of Lake Mburo and beyond.Afternoon Optional Activities:

- Day 21: Lake Mburo – Equator Crossing – Entebbe / Kampala – Departure
After a final breakfast, depart Lake Mburo and drive toward Kampala. En route, stop at the Equator crossing in Kayabwe for a photo opportunity and a brief experiment demonstrating the Coriolis effect.
Continue to Entebbe, arriving in time for lunch. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for last-minute souvenir shopping or a visit to the Entebbe Botanical Gardens.
You will be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight, carrying with you the memories of an extraordinary 21-day journey through the Pearl of Africa.
